Today I was sort of stood up by a student veteran at Columbia so I wandered aimlessly around Morningside Heights. A few years ago, I had visited Columbia’s school of journalism with my Oshkosh prof when we meandered through the city (the prof works for the Times). We stopped here and had lunch. I remember having a veggie burger and ordering tartar sauce. I forgot this place existed!

Did I mention the Columbia campus makes me instantly wish I was an Ivy League intellectual? If I could turn back time. La la la. (Insert Cher tattoo butt here)

I’ve eaten here a few times. The food isn’t terrific, unless you’re there at 5 AM for breakfast, doped up on percocet dispensed by St. Lukes ER doctors to quell the severe pain of a middle ear infection. In that case, the food is good. In that case, all food is good.

Ate here once, oh man, so long ago that it wasn’t even featured as an exterior on Seinfeld yet.

This place has two claims to fame: 1) It was fictionalized as “Monk’s Cafe” on Seinfeld and 2) it is the actual Tom’s Diner commemorated in the song “Toms Diner” by Suzanne Vega. (You know, the “doo doo doo-doo” song: “I am sitting / In the morning / At the diner / On the corner …”)

Woman arrested over demands that Monroe couple have 3-way sex:

MONROE — A Waterbury woman has been charged with repeatedly calling a local female resident to demand that she and her husband join her in a sexual “threesome.”
Anna Bambino, 30, of Pierpont Road, Waterbury, was charged Friday with breach of peace. She was released on a written promise to appear in court.
Bambino called the couple’s home about a half-dozen times, police said. Bambino, who is acquainted with the Monroe woman through a mutual friend, in each of the calls suggested the woman and her husband have three-way sex with her, police said
After officers confronted Bambino, she confessed to making the calls, police said. However, she claimed to have been intoxicated at the time, according to the police report.

To illustrate the story above, The classy Danbury News-Times (once my home-town paper) published this picture Anna Bambino, which they pulled off her MySpace page. Apparently, the woman likes her MD 20/20.

It’s Time To Stop Writing About How It’s Time To Stop Saying ‘Douchebag’:

You know the old blog post topic about how the word “douchebag” has jumped the shark, and we need to stop using it and/or come up with a substitute? Well that topic has jumped the shark, and it’s time to stop writing about it.

First of all, it’s pointless, because the pejorative use of “douchebag” (and it’s cousin “douche”) will probably persist forever. Second, this has become one of the most unoriginal blog post topics on the Web: Ever since Emily Gould used it in a terrific, witty Gawker piece she wrote back in 2006, it’s been done to death.

You know what makes me crazy when I’m in bed? Crumbs. So if you wanna drive me crazy in bed, just eat a sandwich or cookies or something in bed and get bunch of goddamn crumbs all over the place.

I find that repeating everything he says and then humming a long high nasal note while he’s trying to ignore you and read is another effective technique. Cosmo recommends using ice and scrunchy around his nuts but I find wood chips and a garbage bag twist-tie just as useful.

Also, low-threadcount sheets. That drives me crazy too. I mean Jesus, pay the extra 20 bucks at Bed Bath & Beyond and get the 400 threadcount at least, if not 620. Don’t expect me to sleep on that 200-threadcount crap.
